Mongo's wood believes in providing environmentally sustainable fuel wood for those in and around Pagosa Springs. Mongo's provides several types of fuelwood and is sold by: the bundle or the truck load. Our fuelwood is harvested ethically and locally, meaning no new growth is harvested. Mongo's also allows the wood to season, providing our customers with dry, burnable fuelwood for their winter heating needs.
Pine/Sprue
Pine and spruce are readily available soft wood found in the southwest Colorado region, they are a low density wood that splits and burns easily. Pine and spruce are known for being quick drying, therefore seasoning time is reduced significantly. Because pine and spruce are a soft wood it does not burn as hot and therefore is easier to control the heat produced. Spruce is also wonderful for home use because it is not a heavy smoke producer.
Pine produces about 15.9 million BTU's per cord or about 100-150 gallons of fuel oil equivalent. Pine makes great kindling, it will burn very hot, and contains some sap. Pine can be messy, cut into smaller pieces outside if availability allows.
Spruce produces about 14.7million BTU's per cord or about 100-150 gallons of fuel oil equivalent.

Aspen/Birch
Aspen and birch are a type of hardwood that is commonly used as fuelwood. They are prized for their ability to burn easily and produce a hot and long-lasting fire.
Aspen and birch have a relatively low density, which means they can ignite quickly and generate ample heat. This makes them an excellent choice for heating purposes, such as in wood-burning stoves or fireplaces. Its ignition properties are especially beneficial for starting.
Aspen produces about 14.7 million BTU's per cord or about 90-100 gallons of fuel oil equivalent.
Spruce produces 15.9 million BTU's per cord or about 100-150 gallons of fuel oil equivalent.
